Building design culture.
Criticism can be an act of love.
A healthy, resilient design culture only thrives by being challenged, analyzed and debated.
This is the guiding ethos of EXPO, a new magazine covering Canadian architecture, urbanism and design through a critical, deeply researched, and trenchant yet generous lens.
A monthly publication devoted to deeply researched long form essays on topics that shape the built environment, EXPO combines urban and architectural criticism with inter-disciplinary perspectives that enrich design discourse while bridging gaps between design professionals and broader Canadian publics.
It asks the big questions, and tries to answer them.
Founded in Toronto by industry veterans Stefan Novakovic and Jacqueline Loch — and guided by an expert advisory board — EXPO is committed to perspectives from across the country, with content supported by multi-media events, including live talks, readings and more.
EXPO meets a moment where Canada’s built environments — and Canadian media — face existential challenges. Amidst deepening crises of climate change, housing affordability, and a shifting geopolitical landscape, the imperative to build equitable, inclusive and carbon-conscious communities is more urgent than ever. It’s worth writing about.
